Faraz trailer out: Hansal Mehta’s Hostage drama set in Bangladesh marks the debut of Shashi Kapoor’s grandson and Kunal Kapoor’s son Zahaan Kapoor. The film is based on the events of the 2016 real-life terror attack on a Dhaka cafe. The ace director took to his Twitter handle to release the trailer of the film.
Sharing the trailer, he wrote, ‘Standing against bigotry. Presenting the trailer of #Faraj. Proudly releasing on 3 February. The film has been described as “the story of a braveheart who chose humanity over himself”. Zahaan plays the lead role alongside Paresh Rawal’s son Aditya Rawal. ‘Faraz’ will chronicle the events that took place in Dhaka on the night of July 1, 2016, where five young terrorists vandalized an upmarket cafe and held more than 50 people hostage for nearly 12 terrifying hours.
Earlier, Hansal Mehta in an interview with ANI shared, “For me, Faraaz is a story of our polarized times. Through an incident that shook Dhaka — the 2016 attack on the Holi Artisan Cafe — I try to explore the larger theme of violence and what really drives young, vulnerable minds to it. Crafted as a suspenseful thriller that plays out over a tense night, my endeavor with Faraaz has also been to shed light on the immense courage and humanity that is required to stand up to violence. Because standing up against bigotry and the carnage it causes is the only way to defeat it.”
The film opened at the BFI London Film Festival last year to a great response with a sold-out show. Starring debutants Jehan Kapoor and Aditya Rawal, the film had its world premiere at the prestigious Curzon Cinema in Soho, the British capital. Apart from Kapoor and Rawal, the film also stars Juhi Babbar, Aamir Ali, Pallak Lalwani, Sachin Lalwani and Resham Sahani in pivotal roles. Produced by Anubhav Sinha, Faraaz is set to hit the theaters on 3 February.
