RIP Vikram Gokhale: Akshay Kumar and other Bollywood stars mourn the loss

Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale left us all on November 26 (Saturday). The actor was admitted to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune for some time and has now succumbed to his injuries after suffering from multiple organ failure. He was 77 and was seen in many popular Bollywood movies like ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Mission Mangal’, ‘Aiyaary’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ and others. He is survived by his wife and two children. bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has expressed condolences and tweeted about the demise.

A family friend of the actor told that the body of Vikram Gokhale will be kept at Balgandharva Auditorium in the city and his last rites will be performed at Vaikunth crematorium in the evening.

Earlier in the day, the veteran actor’s health had deteriorated slightly, said hospital authorities where he was undergoing treatment. Hospital spokesperson Shirish Yadkikar said, “Eminent actor Vikram Gokhale continues to be on ventilator support and (his health) has deteriorated a bit further. He is back on BP support medication.”

On Friday, the thespian was showing slow but steady improvement, after which doctors said he was likely to be off ventilator support in 48 hours. However, today his health deteriorated and he passed away.

Vikram Gokhale made his film debut in 1971 at the age of 26 Amitabh BachchanHarsh ‘Perwana’. In a career spanning over 40 years, Gokhale has appeared in various Marathi and Bollywood films. He was last seen in ‘Nikamma’ alongside Shilpa Shetty and Abhimanyu Dassani. The film hit the theaters in June this year.

He was the son of the prominent Marathi theater and cinema actor, Chandrakhant Gokhale. Apart from acting in films, Gokhale was a prolific director. He turned director in 2010 with the Marathi film “Aaghat”. He won the National Film Award in the Best Actor category for his Marathi film “Anumati” and was also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2011 for acting in theatre.
