Filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘RRR’, scheduled to hit the Indian screens in March 2022, was to be screened in the world’s largest IMAX theater and the tickets for the screening were sold out in a matter of 98 seconds. RRR was screened at the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles as a part of an initiative by Beyond Fest. The official handle of Beyond Fest shared the news on Twitter. The tweet claimed that it was historic as there had never been such a screening before.
The tweet read: “It’s official and it’s historic. @RRRMovie sold out @ChineseTheatres @IMAX in 98 seconds. Never before has there been a screening of an Indian film like this because there has never been a film like RRR before. Thank you @ssrajamouli @tarak9999 @AlwaysRamCharan @mmkeeravaani (sic).”
SS Rajamouli also won the Best Director trophy at the New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) Awards for RRR. During the acceptance speech, he thanked the organization for appreciating the “small film from the south of India”.
RRR nominated at major award ceremonies
The award season continues for this masterpiece as the film has been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards for Best Non-English Language Film and Best Original Song – Motion Picture for Natu Natu. In addition, RRR has four more Critics’ Choice Award nominations – Best Picture, Best Foreign Language Film, Best Song and Best Visual Effects. Naatu Naatu, a Telugu track from the blockbuster, also features in the Oscar shortlist announced last month. It is composed by veteran music director MM Keeravani and written by Kaal Bhairav and Rahul Sipligunj.
