
Thank God Row: The Supreme Court on Wednesday (October 19) refused to list Ajay Devgn’s plea seeking a stay on its October 25 release for urgent hearing. Siddharth Malhotra ‘Thank God’ harsh on alleged derogatory references to Lord Chitragupta. A bench of Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi listed the petition of Shree Chitragupta Welfare Trust for hearing on November 1.
Apart from seeking a stay on the release of the film, the petition has also sought a direction that its trailer and poster be removed from electronic and social media platforms such as ‘YouTube’ as it allegedly contained “derogatory expressions, acts, statements, dialogues and insults”. Pictures, videos in and around the character of Lord Chitragupta”.
The counsel appearing for the petitioner said that if it is heard after the release on October 25, then the petition will become infructuous. “It may come up for hearing later,” the bench said. Devgan plays the role of ‘Lord Chitragupta’, whom Hindus worship and for whom the ‘Kyastha’ caste people have great reverence. “The religious sentiments of the petitioner including other Kayastha people in the country are being harmed/injured and the fundamental right is being violated and violated by the respondents by making and releasing the said film,” the petition said.
The petitioner trust has made the Central Board of Film Certification, the film’s director Inder Kumar, producer Bhushan Kumar and Devgan as parties.

The film stars Sidharth Malhotra, Ajay Devgan and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles. Sidharth and Rakul Preet will be sharing screen space for the third time and they have previously worked together in Marjaavaan and Aiyaary. The comedy flick is directed by Indra Kumar. While the film is nearing its release date, the makers have dropped the first song from the film titled Manik. The song is an official Hindi remake of Sri Lankan singer Yohani’s popular song Manike Mage Hite. Featuring voices of Jubin Nautiyal and Surya Raghunathan. Rap poetry is composed by Melo D. Manik. Nora makes a special appearance with Sidharth Malhotra in Manik.
