The Kashmir Files – IFFI Row: Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid, who served as the head jury of IFFI, has stirred a new controversy. During the closing ceremony of the film festival, filmmaker The Kashmir Files called the film ‘obscene’, ‘inappropriate’ and a ‘propaganda film’. His statements have created a lot of uproar. Film director Vivek Agnihotri and actors Anupam Kher And Darshan Kumar has reacted strongly to Lapid’s statements.

Responding to Lapid’s statements, Darshan Kumar, who plays Krishna Pandit in the film, told a news portal, “Everyone has their own personal opinion on what they see and feel….but There is no denying the fact that The Kashmir Files is a film which depicts the real plight of the Kashmiri Pandit community…who are still fighting for justice against the brutal acts of terrorism…so This film is not on obscenity but on reality.”

Agnihotri, on the other hand, wrote on Twitter, “GM. Truth is the most dangerous thing. It can make people lie. #CreativeConsciousness.”

Anupam Kher reacts to The Kashmir Files controversy

Whereas, Kher, in a Twitter post, shared a series of pictures from renowned American filmmaker Steven Spielberg’s acclaimed film “Schindler’s List” along with a picture from “The Kashmir Files”. “No matter how big a lie is, it is always smaller than the truth,” wrote the actor, who attended a special screening of the film at the 53rd IFFI on November 22.

He also spoke to the media on Tuesday morning and said, ‘If the holocaust was true, then the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits is also true. It seems to be pre-planned as soon after this the Toolkit gang became active. He made such a statement even though he comes from a community of Jews who were victims of the Holocaust. May God give him wisdom so that he does not use the tragedy of thousands of people to serve his purpose on the stage.”

“The Kashmir Files”, which was released in cinemas on 11 March, was part of the Indian Panorama section at IFFI and screened on 22 November. Written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Zee Studios, the film depicts the exodus of Kashmiris. Hindus in Kashmir after the killings of people from the community by Pakistan-backed terrorists. It also starred Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi.
